MON. JANUARY 2

I have traditionally had Pillsbury Orange Cinnamon Rolls out of the can for New Year's breakfast since I can remember. We had them very very occasionally as a treat when I was growing up, probably including watching the Rose Parade, and once I was out of the house and on my own, very quickly I continued what probably wasn't really a tradition in my parents' eyes, but became one in mine.

Today may not have been New Year's Day, but it was the Rose Parade. So guess what we had for breakfast?!

Through the parade and the rest of the morning, I managed to eat, um, 5 or 6 (I think 5, but not sure) Orange rolls. Soft and gooey and sweet. Can't imagine a Rose Parade without them! (And Lee, bless his heart, has been known to try 4 or 5 stores to find them on New Year's Eve... somehow they're more available now than they were for a while.)

Later in the day I had a See's chocolate because Sabrina bit one w/ nuts in it and didn't like it.

For dinner, I made a sort of casseroley thing of chicken and broccoli and curried mayo and cheese and almonds, the recipe for which I think dates back to college days or soon thereafter. Lee loved it. The kids hated it. So Lee and I finished off their portions. So let's call that 1 1/2 servings of chicken broccoli casserole. With sticky rice.

And Lee gave me a little serving of Moose Tracks ice cream for dessert. (Moose Tracks is sold under our local grocery store's house brand, so I don't know how widespread it is -- it's basically vanilla w/ streaks of fudge through it and little tiny peanut butter cups.)

That's it for the day. Nothing but water from here on out. Tomorrow, the kids go back to school, I send belated Christmas presents to my stepbrother's family (who were out of the country for Christmas), and start taking Christmas down and packing it up...
